Photometric Analysis of the 2009 - 2011
Eclipse of Epsilon Aurigae

What we know, what we don't know and what it all means!

QUESTIONS!

Eclipse Light Curve Details

Introduction:

Epsilon Aurigae is not like other variable stars. We will only get to see less than 1/14 of one cycle of the period over the next two years. Trying to create a phase plot or do time series/frequency domain analysis will not work. While there are multiple eclipses, each one has been unique.

However, we are treated to a rare opportunity to do an in-depth analysis of the data produced during this current eclipse. At HPO we will fill in as much data as we can from our observations, both photometric and spectroscopic. Other observers are encouraged to do the same. Comparisons and combining of observations can enhance the effort. At the end of the eclipse, all the data can be used to tell us a story about this mysterious star system. It will be up to us to piece together the puzzle parts and let a story emerge. Data from the 1982 -1984 eclipse are included for comparison.
